WATCH: Stamkos saves Lightning with five seconds left

The Boston Bruins are nearly unbeatable early in the season, but Steven Stamkos and his Tampa Bay Lightning teammates struck when their opponents least expected in a 5-4 overtime victory Monday night at ‘Amalie Arena.

The match was shown on TVA Sports.

The captain himself came to spoil an amazing evening for goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman.

The 24-year-old Cerberus is still winless in regular time after nine outings, but he deserves better after 41 saves.

The equalizer was made by Stamkos with a shot that was missed to the right of the goalkeeper. With 4.9 seconds left, overtime was necessary. The Lightning took advantage of this second wind, as just over a minute into overtime, Brandon Hagel broke through and beat Swayman between two players. Watch these two goals in the video above.

This is just the Bruins’ fourth loss of the 2023-24 season and their second through three regular seasons.

David Pastrnak did what he could with a goal and an assist, bringing the total number of points to 29.

For the Lightning, Tanner Jeannot, Nick Paul and Austin Watson also hit the mark.

Jonas Johansson added the win to his record 23 saves.

Third twenty paid

On the Dallas side, the Stars scored as many as five goals in the third period to defeat the New York Rangers 6-3.

The Blueshirts led 2-0 before Jamie Benn closed the gap midway through the second period. Inspired by their captain’s net, the home pets pulled out all the stops. Joe Pavelski, Mason Marchment, Tyler Seguin, Sam Steel and Roope Hintz alternated hitting.

The Stars’ last two goals came on the same penalty kick, after Wyatt Johnston tripped Alexis Lafrenière. The Quebecer’s streak of games with a point ended at four.
