On Tuesday morning, U SPORTS released its latest top 10 rankings and three Mount Royal teams earned national recognition for their success.
The Cougars women’s hockey club moved up one spot in the latest edition of the U SPORTS Top 10, reaching second overall and surpassing Canada West rivals the UBC Thunderbirds. Mount Royal improved to 11-3-0 after winning both games against MacEwan over the weekend. MRU’s men’s hockey team entered the national rankings for the sixth week in a row, finishing tenth overall. The team split their weekend home and home with the MacEwan Griffins, first suffering a 3-2 defeat on the road before bouncing back with a convincing 5-1 win the following night. The Mount Royal men’s volleyball team was ranked eighth overall in the U SPORTS rankings this week. An impressive Cougars squad split their mini-series against the Manitoba Bisons during the week, winning 3-0 on Friday but losing 3-1 on Saturday. The 4-4 MRU team heads across town to Jack Simpson Gym this weekend for the mid-season Crowchild Classic against the University of Calgary Dinos.
