The Netherlands, Romania and Switzerland confirm their map

The Netherlands, winners against Ireland (1-0), Romania who celebrated against Israel (2-1) and Switzerland, although controlled by Kosovo (1-1), secured their presence at Euro 2024 on Saturday, during the penultimate day of qualifying .

The Dutch punched their ticket to the scheduled competition in Germany with a narrow win in Amsterdam, securing second place (15 points) in Group B behind France (21 points), who claimed their biggest win in their history (14-0) at the expense of Gibraltar .

Hoffenheim center forward Wout Weghorst scored the winner in the 12th minute for the Oranje, winners of the competition in 1988, who then held on for the success that eluded them, despite some dangerous forays from the opposition.

So far, Ronald Koeman’s men have won five out of seven matches, and lost only in a double clash against the French national team.

The Dutch have endured several unsuccessful European campaigns, failing to reach the quarter-finals since 2008. They even failed to qualify for Euro 2016 in France. In the last continental match, the Batavians lost to the Czech Republic in the round of 16 2-0.

However, they had a promising 2022 World Cup as they reached the quarter-finals, before losing to eventual world champions Argentina on penalties.

In Group I, Romania and Switzerland performed well as expected. The two nations, with 19 and 17 points respectively, are assured of the top two spots before the final day.

The Swiss needed only a draw to qualify, if Israel does not celebrate against Romania. He did it with a goal by Ruben Vargas (45+2), and Kosovo equalized in the 82nd minute through Muhamet Hyseni.

In Hungary, where the second decider of the evening took place, George Puscas and Ianis Hagi gave Romania victory against Israel, who opened the scoring early on through Eran Zahavi.

The Romanians, who failed to qualify for the last Euro 2021, return to this competition next year in Germany for their sixth appearance. Switzerland, for its part, finished as a quarter-finalist two years ago.

The Netherlands, Romania and Switzerland have been added to the Euro 2024 qualification list, which already includes Germany (host country), Albania, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Hungary, Portugal, Scotland, Slovakia, Spain and Turkey.
