Like last year, the Cégep Limoilou Titans won the Bol d’Or of the first division of university football by defeating André-Grasset’s Phénix 41 to 30 at the Stade Diablos on Friday night.
This is the first time a team has won the championship twice in a row since the Vanier Cheetahs in 2006 and 2007. The Titans’ youth program, barely 15 years old, continued its dominance by winning its fourth Bol d’or in five appearances.
For head coach Dave Parent, interviewed by TVA Sports on the field after the win, it was primarily a matter of resilience and culture. His men, the regular season champions with a record of 7-1, held on in this encounter.
Special teams played a big role, especially Alex Bezeau, who returned a punt 89 yards in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jérémy Ouellette was named player of the game for the Titans.
