With 23 games behind the tie, the 2023-2024 edition of the Quebec Remparts. it has already completed more than a third of its campaign. We record nice surprises at the beginning of the season.
The consistency of Quentin Miller
To be clear, it’s not Quentin Miller’s talent that’s surprising, but his near-flawless consistency. Playing in the shadow of William Rousseau last year, he made just 18 starts all season.

He has already gotten that many starts in 23 games so far this year. The Montreal Canadiens prospect maintains a .913 save percentage and a 2.54 goals-against average, which ranks him 6th on the circuit’s best goalies.
There are very few matches where no one from the team’s entourage applauds their play, which allows the Remparts to keep hope, even when their opponents are dominating.
Free agent Antoine Dorion
Signed as a free agent in the offseason, the son of former Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion, Antoine Dorion is now 4th on the team’s leading scorers with 4 goals and 9 assists.
Although he’s had a slump since the start of November and was dropped to the 4th line during Tuesday’s game against the Voltigeurs, he’s still given fans a little excitement since the start of the year with some great pieces of play.
However, coach Éric Veilleux is not worried about this recent lethargy. A perfectionist, Dorion himself told Žurnal in mid-October that he watched one of his matches seven times because he was dissatisfied with his game!
Recruit Xavier Lebel
The only 16-year-old on the roster, Lebel earned his spot in the lineup during training camp by surprising the team’s senior management with his confidence. Since the start of the season, he has missed just one game with the QMJHL roster explaining that he is “injured or ill.”
Offensively, his record of 4 goals and 4 assists for a total of 8 points ranks him 2nd among rookies on the team, behind Antoine Dorion. He regularly plays on the first two lines as well as on the power play.
Numerical disadvantage limiting damage
The Remparts are ranked 2nd among teams with the most numerically unfavorable results since the start of the season, with 107 total.
In these circumstances, it may be encouraging to note that their 82.2% efficiency percentage in such a situation places them in the middle of the pack for this purpose. They are actually 8th in the QMJHL in their efficiency in numerical inferiority.
This situation is all the more reassuring if it is known that the one whom many qualify as “the best defender in the League”, Vsevolod Kamarov, is the most penalized player in the round with 43 minutes of penalty. That represents 15% of the 282 penalty minutes the Red Devils have accumulated so far this year. So he’s often in the dungeon when his teammates have to defend themselves.
