Patrik Laine will be left out tonight

A few days ago, Pascal Vincent sent a big message to his stars.

Indeed, Patrik Laine and Johnny Gaudreau were benched at the end of the third period. This got Columbus talking as not only was the team down 3-2, but Gaudreau and Laine are the two highest paid forwards on the team.

Today, Vincent further increased his sanctions by deciding to sideline Patrik Laine ahead of tonight’s game against the Flyers.

And let’s say it is time it’s very bad…

Two years ago today, Laine’s father lost his life, and on his Instagram story earlier today, the Finn wanted to remind people that he’s still thinking of him.

He may have wanted to play in honor of his father, but Vincent clearly had other plans.

As noted in Jeff Svoboda’s tweet above, Columbus will play 11 forwards and seven defensemen. The match will start at 17:30.

The one that will be a healthy scratch for the first time in his career, he has only two goals and one assist in nine games since the start of the season. The main interested party is obviously not satisfied with the decision.

Still, he received praise from his head coach at the start of the season. Interviewed in BPM Sports at the beginning of OctoberPascal Vincent said that he was very impressed by Laine’s game.

I guess he’s since changed his mind. We will see if the match in the stands will serve as a lesson for his striker.

Note that the latter is being paid $8.7 million per year through the end of the 2025-26 season.
