SEATTLE, Wash. – Quebec striker Jonathan Drouin opened his meter withColorado AvalancheMonday, when he scored his first goal of the campaign in a 4-1 win over The Seattle Kraken.
The irony of fate wanted it to be Nathan Mackinnonwith whom he played rain and shine with the Halifax Mooseheads, who gave Drouin his first with the Denver team.
Down 3-on-1, MacKinnon and Drouin went two-on-one and No. 27 won Joey Daccord with ejection in the upper part.
The last time the pair combined for a goal was in the Memorial Cup final won by Halifax in May 2013.
By then, Drouin had two assists in his first eleven games with the Avalanche.
After conceding the first goal, the one of Brandon Tanev Returning to action after more than a month out, Colorado (9-5-0) found a way in the second period.
Jared Bednar’s team thus ended a streak of two losses in regular time.
Tanev thought he had helped Alex Wennberg to give the outnumbered Kraken (5-8-3) a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, but a challenge by the Avalanche allowed the Kraken’s No. 13 to be ruled an obstruction at the point ofAlexander Georgiev.
It was the wake-up call the visitors needed, who went on a rampage around the Daccord net as the Seattle skaters completely lost their rhythm from the start of the game.
Mikko Rantanen – the author of his tenth season -, Ross Colton, Chale Makar AND Valery Nichushkin also blacked out the record.
Rantanen now has 21 points on his record (10-11) in just 14 games.
Georgiev faced 20 shots in the win.
