The Czech Hockey Association then confirmed the news on the X platform, formerly Twitter.
Czech hockey was hit by tragic news. Roman Čechmánek, the Olympic champion from Nagano and world champion Roman Čechmánek, died at the age of 52. 🕊️

The circumstances of his sudden death are not yet known.
An Olympic champion in Nagano in 1998 and a three-time world champion, the Czech was selected in the 6th round by the Flyers in 2000 (171st). He played with them for three seasons from 2000 to 2003 and another with The Los Angeles Kings in 2003-2004. He then continued his professional career in Europe, mostly in his homeland.
In 212 career NHL games, he had a 110-64-28 record, a 2.08 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.
He retired in 2008.
