MLB: Traded Eugenio Suarez to Arizona Diamondbacks

PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired a powerful batsman Eugenio Suarez from Seattle Mariners back from the reliever Carlos Vargas and the receiver Seby Zavalaaccording to what The Associated Press has learned from a source familiar with the transaction.

This person requested anonymity because the store has not been officially announced.

At age 32, third baseman Suarez has hit 246 home runs since 2014. He fills a need for the D’backs at third, who mostly Evan Longoria AND Emmanuel Rivera last season.

Suarez provides another powerful hitter for the national champions. He hit .232/.323/.391 with 22 home runs and 96 RBI last season and was also used as a pinch hitter.

Vargas is a 24-year-old right-hander who made his major league debut with the Diamondbacks this season, playing in five games. Zavala, 30, was a backup catcher with Chicago White Sox and D’backs over the past three campaigns.
