Last season, the young Magog team in the M18 AAA league did not go according to plan.
However, as often happens, we learned lessons from last season and the management and hockey staff found possible solutions to correct the situation. After 20 games played, the Cantonniers’ record is 13 wins, 4 losses including three overtimes, which puts them in 1st place in their league and 3rd overall with 20 games to go. Samuel Collard, who has been on the job for 2 years, has worked hard to develop good habits off the ice while allowing the rookies to carve out a spot for themselves as they continue to develop.
One thing is for sure, solid games in front of the net and two players in the league’s top 10 scorers provide maximum motivation: “Raphaël Messier and Gabriel Courchesne, just like Zackary Plamondon, who is also in the top 5 defensemen in the league, contribute in every game, they are focused and have one goal in mind to get as far as possible in the series. Since the beginning of the season, the team has been developing together in the system we have put in place and we are trying to understand all the players.” We can also mention that the two Cantonniers goaltenders (Alexandre Raymond and Kyan Labbé) are also doing a great job as they have a .900 save average between them.
In addition, there is something new within the hockey staff since John Kenty joined the Cantonniers as equipment manager, as well as Alexandre Durette as assistant coach. So, there are still 20 games left for the Cantonniers to confirm their place in the series. But until December 11th, they will participate in a tournament, the CCM Challenge in Châteaugay, within which 2 intraleague matches will be counted in the standings.
Cantonniers invite all young hockey fans to join them on December 2nd for a social activity, namely skating with the players of the Cantonniers team.
