Samuel Montembeault’s sensational defense in the third quarter against the Ducks on Wednesday night clearly captured the imagination of many.
And indeed, it was impressive to see the Quebec goaltender go on this real steal of the glove against Franko Vatran.
“She looks like Carey Price,” columnist Tony Marinaro bluntly said Thursday on “JiC.”
“That’s the best save a Canadiens goaltender has made this season,” he then indicated.
Even if Cayden Primeau is in net next game, Montembeault’s performance against the Ducks puts him back as the team’s number one goaltender ahead of Jake Allen, according to him.
“Montembeault was better than Allen last year, he wasn’t very good during training camp, but he’s back,” he explained. And Alen is in free fall.
However, he is not shocked that Primeau has been named the goalkeeper for Friday’s game against the Sharks. Because of the way California’s three-game schedule is put together, it makes sense, he said, that all three of the team’s goaltenders would get “their” game in that stretch.
