Jakub Dobes’ statistics are awful this season

3-5-0 record, goals against average of 4.50 and efficiency rate of 0.862.

When we look at these numbers, we don’t think of a goalkeeper who has had a lot of success since the beginning of the season. And these numbers belong to Laval Rocket goalkeeper Jakub Dobes.

His teammates don’t really help him when we consider that the Laval team is at the very bottom of the American League in terms of the number of goals allowed since the beginning of the season with 66…

But still. Dobes will have to start doing better if he ever wants to get a chance to play in the National League.

He had a good game in the club’s loss on Friday against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, stopping 29 of 31 shots directed at him. Still, he has to find a way to build the rest of his season on that foundation.

The adjustment of goalies from the NCAA to the pros can be difficult.

More matches are played, more travel is done, and we have to think about that game it is different.

The game is faster, the throws are more powerful and the intensity level is higher. It’s not quite rocket science, though.

Because at the university level, Jakub Dobes was a (very) good goalkeeper. He had two great seasons playing for Ohio State, but his confidence seems to be shaken right now.

Dobes and Strauss Mann have played nine games so far this season, and Mann’s performance hasn’t been great either. The club’s defense is of course young, and there have been mistakes since the beginning of the season.

But at the end of the day, despite everything, goalkeepers have to defend when it’s time.

In the end, it’s simple: The Rocket will never improve if they keep scoring so many goals. It’s up to Jean-François Houle to find solutions to stop it, but Dobes and Mann also have a role to play in all of this.
