If the Quebec Nordiques ever return to the National Hockey League, it is certain that more than one group will be involved.
And according to Philippe Boucher, that of Steve Leal, a businessman respected by the senior managers of the Bettman circle, will be one of them.
“It’s not the mayor of Quebec who’s going to bring back the Nordiques, and it’s not the finance minister either,” Boucher said in an interview with JiC on Wednesday.
“If the Nordiques return to Quebec one day, there is an important group that will be involved, and that is Leal Sports Entertainment.”
The group bought the Trois-Rivières Lions of the ECHL earlier this year and is reportedly on the verge of acquiring the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) club with the stated goal of moving it to St-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
