Flames: Backlund calls his teammates in line

Despite a happier streak of late, trade rumors, especially regarding defenseman Nikita Zadorov, have not abated on the Calgary Flames side, and club captain Mikael Backlund has simply had enough.

Indeed, Elliotte Friedman, a reporter for Sportsnet, revealed Saturday during a “Saturday Headlines” segment that Backlund had a discussion about the topic with several of his teammates.

“Backlund talked to a few players, I don’t know if it was in a group or individually, but he said ‘we’ve got to stop the noise,'” Friedman said on the air.

“There are too many distractions around the team. Remember what happened last Friday with (Nikita) Zadorov, he (Backlund) said “enough is enough, we have to focus on our game. If you don’t want to be here, let the Generals manager (Craig Conroy) know.”

In addition to the Russian defenseman, players like Christopher Tanev, Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm would attract the attention of several teams across the National Hockey League.

After starting the year 2-7-1 after 10 games, the Flames are 4-1-2 in their last seven games.
