Davis Cup: Canada defends its title

Canada will begin the final phase of its Davis Cup defense on Tuesday when it plays a quarterfinal match against Finland in Malaga, Spain.

The maple leaf national team qualified for the Davis Cup finals in September, finishing in first place in a group that also included Italy, Chile and Sweden.

So the Canadian women will try to keep the title, but also to imitate what their colleagues achieved recently, winning the Billie Jean King Cup, the women’s version of the Davis Cup.

Félix Auger-Aliassime, Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau, Vasek Pospisil and Miloš Raonic will represent Canada.

Finland will be represented by Emil Ruusuvuori, Otto Virtanen, Patrick Kaukkovalt, Harri Heliovaara and Patrik Niklas-Salminen.

In case of victory, Canada will meet the Czech Republic or Australia in the final four.

The other four national teams in the Davis Cup final are Italy, the Netherlands, Serbia and Great Britain.

In 2022, Canada lifted the Davis Cup after defeating Germany, Italy and Australia in the final stage.
