ALG (0-2): Algeria bends, but does not break!

The national team travels to Maputo to meet Mozambique. This long journey had to lead to only one result: victory, and victory at any cost.

The lawn of the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki continues with the match against Somalia (3-1 victory), Algeria must immediately return to the qualification pool for the 2026 World Cup.

For the Greens, the situation is clear: if they want to compete at the next World Cup, because they haven’t been there since 2014, first place is the only and clear goal. For this, Algeria will have to come and win against a good team from Mozambique, which is reputed to be better than the one from Somalia and which just beat Botswana (2-3).

After voluntarily (and publicly announcing that he would do so) rotating his team, Djamel Belmadi could therefore count on a competitive eleven for this match which was played in quite difficult conditions (more than 30 degrees, the match was played at 3 pm). despite the quality pitch (!) at the Estadio Nacional de Zimpeto.

Injuries and suffering

We could say right away: this first period was a nightmare. In the 15th minute, Algeria found themselves without the injured Aïss Mandi and Islam Slimani, and were replaced by Mohamed Tougaï and Mohamed Amour.

The Greens, obviously shaken, then came into doubt. Their playful opponent created more chances and on several occasions came close to scoring without the excellent Anthony Mandrée. We went back to the dressing room with a score of 0-0 which was miraculous in the end, as the suffering looked great and the two premature substitutions seemed to hurt.

Algeria bends, but does not break

Already at halftime, a new change: Gouiri, who found the post in the first 45 minutes, gave way to Boudaoui, obviously more suitable for the fight that awaits Algeria.

The situation has changed very little, and thanks to two individual feats of Amoura, the happiness of our Greens will come. The first was signed by Chaïbi, who strongly responded to Amoura’s shot that just hit the crossbar (0-1, 69′).

Since she is aware that her opponent can strike her at any moment, EN does not fall asleep. Less and less trouble in the opponent’s penetrations, Algeria counterattacks again, and Amour, still himself, stands in the center of the goal that Zerrouki, who entered the game 10 minutes earlier and clinically against the goalkeeper, finally converts (0-2, 80′ ). Algeria suffers, but still wins!
