Fans of high-performance cars can get a brand new book for a few days now, thanks to the “Guide de l’auto” team, which presents, thanks to the pen of its expert Gabriel Gélinas, the most famous discoveries of recent years.
With the book “Voitures d’exception”, published by Éditions de l’Homme and available in bookstores from November 8, the longtime journalist wanted to bring to the fore “what has driven him to travel for the last 2-3 years. Fans of hyperpowered cars will surely find what they are looking for, but those expecting to read long descriptions accompanied by detailed technical sheets will be surprised. Rather, they have the opportunity to buy a beautiful book, similar to those that lovers of travel and paradisiacal landscapes consult with to keep their dreams alive.
These are almost 200 polished photos that illustrate impressive Paganis, BMWs, Ferraris, Rolls-Royces and many others that will make even the most curious drool. But why this initiative, the first of its kind in Quebec regarding the most prestigious new cars in the world? Mr. Gélinas did not have to look far to see for himself.
“I am the father of a 14-year-old who likes to talk, only he doesn’t talk about compact cars, but about models like Lamborghini and Koenigsegg,” said a man with more than 30 years of experience as a columnist. It is especially for all lovers of beautiful cars. We’re playing the photography card and I’m sure it will appeal to audiences of all ages.”

For your viewing pleasure
Accordingly, the author’s aim here is not to approach the sales market as the “Car Guide” does in all its rigor. The fruit of many months of work and created for the pleasure of the eye, the beautiful book offers impressive photographs. It is enough to mention the Rimac Nevera, the fastest electric car on the planet with a record 412 kilometers per hour, whose acceleration Mr. Gélinas describes as violent.
Formula 1 fans are not left out either, as “Extraordinary Cars” devotes several pages to two F1 cars designed for the road: the Mercedes AMG One, whose V6 engine with a hybrid system is a modified version of the one that enabled Lewis Hamilton to win the drivers’ championship in 2014; then the Aston Martin Valkyrie, which was created by the current technical director of the Red Bull team, Adrian Newey, and whose first copy found a buyer this year for the amount of 4 million dollars.
“Often these are limited edition cars, and in a few cases there is only one,” said the author, who says he takes great pride in his work depicting cars on the track, in mountain and desert areas or simply in a garage. It’s also great to promote the work of photographers and present these models in their natural habitat.”
For example, the Bugatti W16 Mistral, filmed near the sea and whose name resembles one of the Mediterranean winds, will capture the imagination of many. The beauty that adorns the book is worthy of an art gallery, judging by the words of the journalist.
“We wanted to include concept cars to give an idea of the design. It is a tribute to the model. (…) Some are real works of art, like Pagani’s utopia. The shift lever is a jeweler’s work, a real gem.”
A special birthday
The beautiful book also looks back at an important part of automotive history: the 60th anniversary of Lamborghini. For this occasion, readers can rediscover or get to know the Miura as well as other significant cars in the history of the famous Italian brand.
“Miura is the first exotic car. It inaugurated a genre and it’s absolutely magnificent,” specified Mr. Gélinas, linking to the company’s recent baby, the Lamborghini Revuelto which includes an engine of as much as 1,001 horsepower.
– Gabriel Gélinas will participate in two signing and signing sessions at the Montreal Book Fair, Friday night and Saturday morning, at the Palais des congrès. Containing 208 pages, “Extraordinary Cars” retails for $44.95 in bookstores.
